In the past year Kaitlyn has expressed her desire to become a pet owner. Michael and I let her know that with a pet of your own comes great responsibility, you can't just get a pet and then forget about it. They require great love and time and caring. And she promised that if we let her get a cat she would take very good care of it.
After much discussion we decided that we would let Kaitlyn get a cat or a kitten, because that is the pet she really wanted.
I let Kaitlyn know that I really wanted to go to Kitty City at the Humane Society in Murray. I felt adoption an older cat would be a great idea since they're usually not as much work as a kitten and we would be saving a Cat from the life behind bars.
The first time we went I let Kaity know that we were going to let the cat choose her (my niece said this is the best way to get a cat) and she agreed. That way the cat would love her back and be her constant companion. So we went from room to room talk to and holding many different cats. There were some wonderful cats, but none really took a liking to Kaity. So we went home and waited for about 2 weeks and went back and did the same thing and yet again nothing. Finally the 3rd time was a charm. We went into a room and Kaitlyn sat down on the floor and this wonderful white boy cat with one blue eye and one green eye came up to Kaitlyn and sat right down in her lap. He wanted some lovin' and that's what Kaity did, she gave him some lovin'. When she got up he followed her staying right by her side where ever she walked. When we left the room he wanted to leave with her but we told him we would be back. After going to other rooms none of the other cats seemed to be interested in bonding with Kaitlyn, I said "Let's go back and see Nemo again"
Kaity agreed and when we walked back into that room there he was waiting for her. I think he knew she'd be back.
Nemo was the one, so I filled out all the adoption paperwork and we headed home with our newest family member. Nemo Keepers Long.
When we got home we knew that our dogs needed to have time to meet the cat. At the Humane Society they said to give it a week. So we put Nemo in Kaitlyn's room and let them sniff each other through the door. Noah and Nita were so curious about this thing in Kaity's room. Finally after a couple of days with the dogs camped outside of Kaity's room we decided to give it a try. Nemo wasn't a bit scared of those dogs, as a matter of fact he seemed excited to have someone else to play with in his new home. And our pups were quite curious, yet never wanting to hurt our new family member.
Now a few months down the road Nemo has fit into our family perfectly. He loves Kaitlyn exactly how she wanted him to love her. He loves the rest of our family too. And he an Noah are pals, Nemo is constantly rubbing up against Noah, and Noah doesn't mind a bit. Nita keeps her distance although Nemo loves her. One day Nita was sleeping on the sofa and Nemo got on the sofa and laid next to her and fell fast asleep. I would say we got the best cat in the world and I think he got a pretty great family too!
